Webcams are video capturing devices connected to computers that allow the user to record video files or still-images.  A WebCam is a digital camera designed to take digital photographs (snapshots) or video (streaming video) and transmit them over the Internet.  WebCams can also be used for video conferencing over the Internet with other users.  WebCams can be used with video messaging software such as Skype.

Reasons to use a WebCam:

  • Communicate "face-to-face" with other classrooms in the building, across town, or around the world
  • Develop and display classroom video presentations
  • Use still photos to enhance presentations
  • Videos or pictures can be added to school or classroom blogs or Web sites
  • Students will have a better view of the outside world
